Match Report

Spurs lost their first match of the 2000/2001 season in a rather depressing manner. George Graham, the master of Defensive strategies and 'the offside' saw his side crumble too many times against a rather ordinary Newcastle team. Tottenham took too long to settle into the game and it cost them dearly when a n offside plea failed miserably. Gary Speed (One of Tottenham's bogey men) broke the trap and lob the oncoming Neil Sullivan and put Newcastle into a goals lead! Tottenham did create chances for themselves after that. Darren Anderton saw a lovely chipped ball into the are re bound of the inside of the post and the same later happened for Oyvind Leonhardsen. He saw two goal attempts denied not only by the wood work but by Newcastle defenders on the line as well. Newcastle wrapped the game with a Daniel Cordone strike. Cordone wasn't a threat through out the match, but at the rate the game was going, you could see it happen!

So Tottenham's poor run against Newcastle United continued, but at least we have one of the most trickiest games of the season out of the way. Now we can concentrate on our next fixture at home to Everton!.

Men of the Match

Steve Carr and Darren Anderton. Both of out tight sided men performed brilliantly again while the rest of the side failed to live up to expected standards!

Goal of the match

Gary Speeds delightful chip on Neil Sullivan to give Newcastle the lead, but it was hardly a contender for Goal of the Season!

Save of the Match

Neil Sullivan pulled off a number of excellent saves to keep Tottenham in it, but his best saw him tip Nolberto Solanos shot on to the woodwork!
